How to Wear Boots With Dresses

With Winter fast approaching, it’s time to start thinking about trans-seasonal dressing! Whilst we may be saying goodbye to beach parties, strappy sundresses and longer days, the parties will continue to roll in – leaving us asking the question, if not sandals, then what?

Keeping your toes warm is step number one when the days start getting chilly, and so we enter the domain of the trusty boot! While it can be tempting to throw on your jeans as soon as the temps fall below 20, pairing boots with dresses is our favourite way to keep it effortlessly elegant throughout the cooler months.

No matter your style or the occasion, we’ve put together our top tips for styling boots with your favourite dresses!

Step your look up a notch by playing with colour from head to toe! A bold pair of boots is the perfect accessory to lift any look. Whether you are colour coordinating or creating a courageous combo, colour blocking with a bold pair of boots is totally on trend! Try playing with different shades of the same colour for a monochromatic and ultra chic look.

For the Mini Lover

Lengthen the lifespan of your favourite Summer dress by pairing with boots as Winter comes around. As the chill sets in, try wearing with thigh-high boots and opting for long sleeved minis, showing only a slither of thigh for a flirtatious touch of skin. Until then, keep rocking the mini with your fave ankle boots for an understated winter look! Add a heel for the perfect way to lengthen your legs and to add a dressed up twist to that little frock you’ve been loving all summer long!

Think velvets, beading, royal purples and navy blues paired with golden toned metallics. A plush pair of velvet sock boots with a chunky heel is the ultimate styling piece for a luxe look. Opt for embroidered detailing, celestial themed prints and lots of embellishment for a lavish and ornate style that is straight off the runway. More is definitely more, so aim for extravagance and opulence to nail this look!

For the Covered and Cosy

Keep warm by experimenting with layers and longer hemlines! Play with textures by adding wooly coats and jumpers, and cover exposed skin by lengthening your boots to sit above your hemline – a super stylish way to stay cosy! Try pairing suede with silk, knits, fun prints and voluminous silhouettes. Create contrast and a fun way to dress for the cooler temps.

Do’s and Don’t’s:

Do: experiment with contrasting lengths – short dresses with tall boots, ankle skimming lengths with barely there boots and everything in between!

Don’t: order a smaller size – boots can take a few wears to be comfortable and fit to your feet, so try going half a size up and don’t be discouraged if they aren’t comfy right away. Think of them as a long term style investment!

Do: play with colours and textures, and make your boots the statement piece of your outfit!

Don’t: go for quantity over quality. A good quality pair of boots will last a lifetime, so splurge a little now and thank yourself later!

Do: pick a boot with a comfy heel height. There’s nothing worse than an amazing pair of shoes sitting in your wardrobe unworn because the heels are just too high to manage! If you’re opting for height, balance it out with a thicker block heel so you can wear your faves with ease!
