With New York Fashion Week Spring 2017 style on show, the city turned into a urban runway with fashion’s most chic stepping off the catwalk and onto the streets in über cool street style.
From bold accessories to high fashion gowns mixed with tailored blazers, 90s grunge inspired outfits and high contrast pops of colour; NYFW SS17 tops our list for favourite street style inspiration for this season.
We have collected 7 street style looks from New York Fashion Week and recreated them with our own collection of GlamCorner dresses!
What to Wear This Week: Inspired by NYFW Street Style
1. Ruffles & Prints
This year’s New York Fashion Week Ss17 street style combined mixed every day chic with luxe haute couture. The above look perfectly illustrates this fashion forward balance. A perfect spring/summer look, this flowing asymmetrical hemmed dress with bold print and ruffles takes elegance to the street when paired with some fashionable yet understated accessories. Re-create this look with our Talulah Floral Affair Midi Dress, and pair with a black slouchy shoulder bag and this season’s fashionable loafers.
2. Mini dresses
A new take on the shirtdress, this look adds an edgy appeal with the sass of a mini dress. New York City showcased a lot of chic mini dresses in wearable styles such as this, with fashionistas paying heed to accessories when completing their outfit. Hand bags, ankle boots and sunglasses not only added to the outfits, they made them. Mini dresses were not the ultra-feminine, figure-hugging style that we have known them to be; instead revived with a more street savvy structured style and in muted colours for a more wearable option. To recreate this look, try an edgy playsuit, such as our Zimmemann Mischief Frill Playsuit, and cinch at the waist with a belt for a fashion-forward finish. Team with ankle boots and a leather shopper bag for a cool street style look.
Flowy floral dresses and gladiator sandals are still at the height of fashion this spring/summer season. This combo looks fabulous for any occasion; BBQ in the park, walks along the beach, evening drinks. The addition of statement accessories such as the knee length sandals and fedora hat adds that urban street style twist to an otherwise very feminine and chic outfit. Recreate this look with our Privacy Please Fillmore Dress, paired with black accessories.
Pantsuits and jumpsuits made a stylish appearance on the streets of New York. Again, accessories make a big difference to achieving that street style cool. Try pairing a white pantsuit with stylish nude flats and a woven handbag for a wearable and fresh summer look! Our Thurley Love Lost Onsie combines flattering tailoring with gorgeous lace and a sexy off the shoulder cut.
5. Bell Sleeves
Bell sleeve dresses, laced up collars and a mix of traditional cultural styles and modern street edge has made quite an impact on the street runway of New York Fashion Week. Style our Self Portrait Bell Sleeve Dress with strappy sandals or flats and this seasons metallics for an eye catching look. This would be an edgy outfit for attending a show or summer shopping with the girls!
6. Wrap dresses
Wrap dresses were big on the New York streets! Paired with belts cinched at the waist and big plastic bangles for a quirky and very retro look. Flattering on every figure and body type, wrap dresses are the perfect essential spring/summer outfit. Look to bright and bold colours and style with a wide brimmed floppy hat for a stylish drinks-by-the-poolside outfit! Our yellow C/MEO Collective Better Things Dress is the perfect easy, breezy wrap dress to recreate this look.
7. Off the shoulder
The off the shoulder trend is huge this season. Found in dresses, tops and pantsuits the trend is extremely wearable and flattering for most. An endlessly versatile style, try styling our Bec & Bridge Winkworth off the shoulder dress with statement earrings and an over the shoulder strappy bag.
