Customer Story: Military Ball gown hire

A Military Ball is often a very traditional and formal occasion. And over the years, the GC team have helped to dress so many of our customers on Army, Navy and Air Force bases around Australia! Given that GC delivers Australia-wide, our express-post delivery service has been particularly helpful to the thousands of Aussie ladies living on regional military bases while they help to serve and protect our country - particularly when the nearest shopping centres are so far away! In this post our beautiful customer Shanan tells us about how she rented a gown for the Royal Australian Air Force Ball in Adelaide:

Military Ball

Tell us about the special occasion you had and why you wanted to wear a designer dress for it?

My sister’s husband is an Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force and it has been my proud honour to accompany them to the winter Military Officers Ball here in Adelaide for the past four years. The ball is held in May each year which is also my birthday month so it’s traditionally been a bit of a dual celebration which has been great for me, I mean how many people get to go to a ball for their birthday!? Going to an event like this is a great opportunity to really dress up and what better way to dress up than in a designer gown.

What was it about this occasion that made renting a dress so appealing for you?

For the past 3 years my sister and I have purchased our gowns for this event, and whilst we have loved that whole experience, we were a bit limited by budget and were also starting to build a collection of dresses that will probably never be worn again! This year the ball was held at the Adelaide Town Hall which is a beautiful old glamourous building, so this year we decided to hire a designer gown from GlamCorner and really glam it up! Being able to hire a unique designer dress for the same price as purchasing a mass produced off-the-shelf dress is hugely appealing. You get to feel like a queen for a fraction of the price.

Tell us about the dress and the designer label you chose, and why you chose it?

I decided to take advantage of GlamCorner’s try before you hire service and actually tried on three other dresses before I found the perfect one for the ball. Having so many dresses available was amazing and I love how quick and convenient this service is. Being able to try the dresses on in the comfort of my own home with my own accessories (and an honest opinion or two thrown in by my Mum) was also fantastic. The dress I chose was the Tadashi Shoji Paillette Lace Gown which comes in a gorgeous dark blue colour. It was not a style that I thought would suit me, as I am a little on the “curvy” side, but I’m glad I decided to step outside of my comfort zone as the dress fit me perfectly and I felt amazing in it. The dress my sister wore was the Langham Ida gown in black (also from GC) which was also stunning.

Have you rented a dress before or was this your first time? For your first time renting a dress, what made you consider it?

I have never hired a gown before, and I’m not sure it would be something I would have considered unless it was suggested to me. But it makes sense. When you attend an annual function you don't want to wear the same gown more than once, but you don’t necessarily want a wardrobe full of different gowns that you likely won’t have an occasion to wear them to again either, so why not hire? My sister had previously hired a cocktail dress from GlamCorner for a work function and was impressed with the dress and the service so suggested we do the same for the ball this year. I’ll be honest and say that I did check out some of GlamCorner’s competitor’s websites but there was no comparison. As far as range, price, and service goes I think GlamCorner is second to none.

Tell us about how you first discovered GlamCorner?

As I mentioned before my sister found GlamCorner a while ago when she had a work function to attend. So we took advantage of GlamCorner's try before you hire service but decided to still go shopping in store for a dress just in case. We received our trial dresses a couple of days before we had arranged to go shopping and needless to say we cancelled the shopping trip as we knew we wouldn’t find anything better than the dresses we chose from GlamCorner.

How was your overall experience with GC (online and offline) and would you recommend us to other women?

My overall experience was perfect. From the ease of use of the website, to the range of products available, to the services offered, and the reasonable prices. Then when my order arrived, carefully package in its own box with a labelled pre-paid return envelope, it just made the whole experience completely simple and stress free. I would highly recommend GlamCorner to other women, and have already done so. Making designer dresses accessible to all women so that we can have the opportunity to look and feel as beautiful as we should for our special occasions is a wonderful thing. Thanks again!

Thanks Shanan, it was an absolute pleasure dressing you for this event and a real honour to be involved in some way. Your and your sister-in-law looked so stunning and your sister-in-law's husband looked very dashing in full military formal attire. We're very excited to to see you for your next event! :) xx
