Sun, sea, sand, cocktails, late nights and beautiful beach dresses – there is nothing we love more than a beach getaway. Whether it’s a girls’ weekend on the coast, a romantic Balinese retreat or a luxurious stay on a Hawaiian beachfront, there is no relaxation quite like beach relaxation, is there? Plus, a resort wear wardrobe has an entirely different set of requirements than, say, your work or weekend looks, and we love any excuse to pull together new pieces.

From gigantic floppy hats to beach dress cover-ups, resort wear is all about breezy, comfortable sunny-day vibes and we adore it. So, whether you have a holiday of your own on the horizon, or are just wiling away your hours at the office by day dreaming (guilty!) of more exotic climes, read on for our guide to the resort wear essentials that your beach wardrobe can’t live without.

1. The Straw Hat

Ahh, the perennial beach day classic and an absolute resort wear staple – the straw hat. Whether you like something gigantic and floppy for a touch of dramatic flair, or go for a more restrained look with a simple panama, a brimmed hat is an absolute must. Not only will it make any outfit look insanely stylish (maxi skirt and white tee, easy beach dress and espadrilles, denim shorts and bikini top - anything!) in an old school glamour sort of way, you can also justify any hat purchase as sensible and practical too – it protects your skin from harmful UV rays and will hide your sea-salty hair, what’s not to love?

2. The Swimsuit

Obviously, no beach holiday is complete without a killer swimsuit. High-leg one-pieces and high waisted bikinis are both very on trend at the moment, as are cut outs and strappy detailing. Whether you are a bikini babe or more of a one-piece wonder is really up to you, as long as you feel comfortable enough to strut your stuff on the sand.

3. The Pool Slides

Every good fashionista knows that to forget footwear is a sin, and even though you may be barefoot for most of your holiday, you can’t neglect your resort wear shoes! Sporty and chic, pool slides are the new sandal. Forget complicated gladiators with their extensive straps and buckles, just slide on these babies and hit the beach.

4. The Cover-Up

Picture the scene – you’ve lounged on the beach all day, curled up in the shade with a good book, and dipped your feet into the ocean and now you’re ready to hit the Tiki bar for some refreshment before dinner but you have to go back to the hotel to change. Not if you pack a beautiful and stylish cover-up in your tote! A breezy, beach dress will take you from the beach to the bar to dinner and back again with zero fuss – something from our collection of Camilla dresses available for rent is a must!

5. The Sunnies

Sunnies are an Australian staple any time of year, of course, but when it comes to resort wear they take on a much bigger role in your ensemble. A classic pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers thrown on with your slides and a beach dress for a quick and effortless look, or a pair of mirrored aviators will give even the simplest outfit an on-trend twist.
