runway ss17 new york fashion week

Year after year we wait with baited breath for the biggest shows of the season, and because New York Fashion Week never fails to impress, it was no surprise that this year wasn’t any different.

While plenty of rumours have been floating around lately saying runway shows may be coming to an end, something tells me the fashion world isn’t quite ready to let go of the greatness that is the worldwide Spring Summer shows.

This season, we saw a fresh take on just about every trend we’ve seen before. But when I say “fresh take” I mean they’ve been reworked, restyled, and redone like you’ve never seen before.

Take a look at our top 5 trends from New York Fashion Week’s SS17 shows to inspire your Spring / Summer wardrobe!

Garden Party

Draw inspiration from some of the biggest names in fashion when you follow suit and don pretty little floral prints. Seen all throughout New York Fashion Week, this SS17 trend knows it’s best to never draw a line in the garden bed, because whoever said floral prints was a dying trend, was wrong!

The trick to mastering this trend is to not be shy! Go for an all over floral print, but keep it muted and simple with flattering cuts and feminine silhouettes.

Here’s where you can play around with 9am-1am dressing: floral motifs are the perfect office to garden cocktail party option there is. Team a high-necked, classic cut dress such as this Fame & Partners ‘Joys Azalea Floral Dress’ with a relaxed style blazer by day (totally office aprops), then throw on a pair of strappy stilettos and let the backless design take you into the nighttime.

Army Khaki

Never one to shy away from the sartorial spotlight Khaki stampeded its way down the SS17 runways – in shades ranging from pale brown to dark army green – and we welcomed it into our arms like it was a long lost best friend.

Wear with bold accessories and a hint of colourful print, or go top-to-toe in varying shades for a fashionistas take on colour blocking army style.

Work this look for a black tie function, sporting a full length empire line gown in a softer shade of khaki green. Our Olive Pixel Gown by George is a gorgeous colour flattering on most skin tones. Team this dreamy strapless dress with bold accessories, a pair of nude stilettos and an easy-to-do messy bun for a fresh-off-the-ss17 runway look.

50 Shades of Yellow

From lemon yellow to the brighter, bolder canary coloured end of the spectrum, SS17 saw the impending Southern Hemisphere Summer light, as designers sent models wrapped in all shades of the what could be called, “colour of the season”.

While most tend to shy away from the mustard coloured hues that a yellow tones outfit can bring, when the worlds biggest designers are drawing colour inspiration from our condiment jars, you know it’s time to tackle the tricker trend, once and for all.

For the lucky ones who sport an all-year round sun kissed look, go bold in the darker more mustard shades. Alternatively try a creamy yellow and opt for a softer drape material, giving shape and style to the bold colour statement. Our Ae’lkemi Cowl Front Gown is a gorgeous cut and colour for your next red carpet event. Pair it back with minimal accessories and tan heels or flats for a full summer look.

Single Shoulder

Some said it was on its way out, but designers at this year’s New York SS17 fashion shows had other ideas. Taking a more architectural design spin on the classic cold shoulder, collections saw models showcase the latest trend: The Shoulder Cut Out. Not to be mistaken with the much known “off the shoulder” or “one Shoulder” trends, this latest take on fashion has a whole new meaning.
